Limitations

  • Conversion restrictions: You cannot change share types (from normal to referral or vice versa) after they have been created.

  • Path/address immutability: You cannot clear the referral path or leave addresses empty.

  • IP restrictions: Referral addresses should not be floating IPs or Anvil static IPs.

  • Not validated for reachability: The system does not check if the referral target is a valid target.

  • Excluded from some operations:

    • Cannot be an assimilation destination

    • No objectives, GFS participation, or snapshot schedules can be applied to the referral shares

    • Many file system-related statistics are skipped for referral shares
