Cross-Site Versioning

Cross-site versioning is a feature of Hammerspace Global File System (GFS) that allows you to keep a record of file changes when a file is modified in one site and then saved in a different site. The last site to modify the file is considered the owner of the file.

The Global File System is a core capability of Hammerspace platform that allows users to access files from different locations as if they were all stored in the same place.

Cross-site versioning is configured using the log-xfer objective. When you create a log-xfer objective, you can specify how long you want to keep a version of a file after it is saved in a different site. The options are 1 hour, 1 day, 1 week, or 1 month.

Configuring Cross-Site Versioning Using the Admin CLI

Enter the following command to set the log-xfer objective for a share using the Admin CLI.

share-objective-add --name <share name> --objective log-xfer-1-<duration>

For example, to keep a version of a cross-versioned file for one week after it is saved in a different site, you would use the following command:

share-objective-add --name <share name> --objective log-xfer-1-week

Configuring Cross-Site Versioning Using the GUI
