Adding an AWS S3 Storage System

This procedure is required the first time you connect an AWS S3 storage system to your Hammerspace cluster. If an AWS S3 storage system is already registered in Infrastructure  Storage Systems, skip to Adding a GIR Object Storage Volume.

This procedure applies to all AWS S3 object storage use cases, not only GIR.

Using the Web UI

  1. Go to Infrastructure  Storage Systems, then click Add Storage System.

  2. In the Add Storage System dialog:

    • Enter a Name for the storage system.

    • For Storage Type, select Object Storage.

    • For Type, select Amazon S3.

      Glacier Instant Retrieval is supported only on Amazon S3 storage systems. If you select Azure, GCP, or Hammerspace S3, the GIR storage class option will not be available when you later add a volume.

  3. Scroll to the Access Details section and enter the Access Key (access key ID) and Secret Key (secret access key) for the AWS service account. Hammerspace uses these credentials for all subsequent S3 operations on this storage system.

    The AWS region configured on the storage system is used for volumes added on it.

  4. Configure any optional settings as needed, then click Add Storage System.

  5. Hammerspace connects to AWS and validates the credentials. When the storage system is added successfully, the dialog displays Storage System <name> created successfully. You can click the button in the dialog to proceed directly to adding volumes, or close the dialog and manage the storage system later from Infrastructure  Storage Systems.

After the command completes, verify that the storage system appears in the list:
