Prerequisites

Before adding a GIR Object Storage Volume, you need:

  1. An AWS account with an S3 bucket available. The bucket must be empty — it cannot contain existing data when added to Hammerspace.

  2. AWS access credentials (an access key ID and secret access key) for the service account Hammerspace will use to connect to S3.

  3. IAM permissions on the AWS service account that allow the required S3 operations.

  4. The AWS S3 storage system is registered in Hammerspace. If your organization already uses S3 in Hammerspace, the storage system may already be present. If not, add it first using the procedure in the next section.
