Monitoring Storage Volumes

Hammerspace has built-in, automatic health checks that periodically check the health of connected storage systems and volumes, as well as permissions and connectivity. This check is also executed when a storage volume is added to the configuration.

The storage configuration test for NAS storage volumes checks for all the required NFS operations that are required for a read-write storage volume. Permissions (chmod) changes, ownership (chown) as well as root squashing. If an error is detected, the storage configuration test will automatically place that volume into a suspect state and generate an alert.

The storage configuration test for NAS also includes operations such as creating a directory and creating files. This ensures that files can be created with the appropriate permissions and identities.

The storage health check for object storage volumes will update a will ensure connectivity to the object storage volume periodically. Part of managing your object storage volume is ensuring connectivity and correct permissions to read and write to the bucket. This is checked by uploading an object into the bucket from each site. If any error is encountered, an event will be generated to notify the administrator that it needs attention.
